Annual Dinner Dance - 2009
16th January 2009
St. Mary's Rasharkin held their Annual Dinner Dance at the Elk Toome on Friday 16th January 2009. Christmas is over, New Year's Eve is a distant memory and it's the third Friday in January - that can only mean one thing - Rasharkin's Dinner Dance!

For the first time in seven years we had a new man at the centre of proceedings. Our new Club Chairman Brian O'Neill takes over the reigns from Anthony Mc Mullan who takes a well deserved step back. Both men have different roles this year!

After a delicious four course meal served to everyone's satisfaction Dick Mc Keague announced our guests.

Antrim Vice Chairman Jim Murray was first up, he talked of how well St.Mary's club and committee are run; adding they are the envy of many clubs in Antrim and indeed beyond. He named a few jewels in our crown - Ulster PRO Michael Hasson, CCC secretary Danny Mc Larnon, outgoing chairman Anthony Mc Mullan, Club treasurer John Mc Auley and Club Secretary Michael Hardy to name a few. Jim recalled his refereeing days and how he enjoyed Rasharkin's character - especially at home. He thanked Owen Quinn and Damien Mc Farren for their refereeing contributions last season. He wished all our teams all the best is the up and coming year and concluded by congratulating Chairman Brian O'Neill on his new appointment.

North Antrim Chairman Naill Kearney and South West Chairman Leo Heatley spoke respectively and thanked the club for their invitation and again wished all our teams for new season.

Canon Murphy was the next speaker. He acknowledged the work that has been carried out by the club last year both on and off the pitch, including the development draw, but he paid particular attention to our outgoing chairman Anthony Mc Mullan in all his achievements and dedication to St.Mary's through his years of chairmanship. All present agreed sincerely and responded with rapturous applause.

Our new chairman Brian O'Neill took the floor to conclude the speeches; he firstly thanked Dick Mc Keague and all the staff of the Elk for the meal and service. He thanked everyone for the attending our annual dinner dance. Brian took time to mention all our various teams, managers, committee members and supporters and how well each had down throughout the year. He referred to the development draw and the success it had been (of which he himself played a crucial role). He recalled the successful night held for the 1958 team in November and he thanked organisers Danny Mc Larnon, Michael Hasson and Anthony Mc Mullan. Brian appealed for help and support from one and all with all our teams, activities and events for this coming season he then wished all connected with the club good luck for the coming season.
