Croke Park meets the Rasharkin Under 12 Hurling Team
6th April 2010
Under 10 Hurlers representing Antrim at the Croke Park Activity Day
The Rasharkin Under 12 Hurling team
was one of the lucky few teams who were chosen to represent County Antrim in a
recent activity day held in Croke Park, Dublin on Tuesday 6th April.
We set sail early on Tuesday morning and travelled down with our neighbouring club Cuchullains Dunloy. The craic and the banter on the bus was great and upon arrival at Croke Park our young players began to realise they were going to be playing on one of best pitches in the world.
We took to the field and our young players could not believe it. They where touching the grass, feeling the goal posts, sticking muck on their hurleys as it was a dream come true. We played 2 matches against Robert Emmett's Cushendun and Gort na Mona Belfast.
Once the matches where over we were allowed a team photo on the team bench with Croke Park Stadium behind us and it was something to see! After which we got a run round the Croke Park Museum Tour before setting off again on the road home. On the way we stopped in the Sports Man Restaurant just outside Newry for a bite to eat which was well needed at this stage by both teams and we arrived home safe and sound just before 7pm in Rasharkin.
A big thank you goes to the mentors of the team (Brendan Carey, Declan Mc Kay, Michael C Hasson, Darren O'Boyle and Ciaran Hasson) who looked after our young players all day and to the spectators / parents who travelled all the way from Rasharkin to cheers us on.
Special thanks must go to our neighbouring club Cuchullains Dunloy who shared cost the of the trip and made it a much more worthwhile day for the Rasharkin players and mentors. Hopefully something to be had again. Go raibh maith agat
