Doherty in his prime (Hogan Stand)
4th January 2013
Antrim footballer Paul Doherty feels he's in his prime at the age of 28.

The Rasharkin clubman has been named in manager Frank Dawson's McKenna Cup squad after a couple of years in the intercounty wilderness and is pushing hard for a midfield berth:

"I was in Australia for a few years - 2008 and '09 - and I came back and was part of Liam Bradley's squad in 2010," he recalls in The Irish News.

"I had injuries that year and didn't get going. I was scundered after that and took a couple of years out. So I said I'd give it another go this year.

"I said that before I hit 30 I'd give it another crack and see how it goes.

"I thought my intercounty career was over but I've been playing pretty well with my club and I've worked hard on my fitness, which maybe let me down before when I was with the county.

"I just feel now I'm in my prime. I know boys talk about their prime being their mid-20s but I'm 28 now and I feel I've got a couple of good years left to give."
