St.Mary’s Rasharkin clean up at Aontroim Scor Sinsear
 
Aontroim Scor Sinsear took place on Sunday 26th February in the new St.Olcan's Parish Hall Rasharkin. The event turned out to be a tremendous success for St.Mary's Rasharkin who hosted this County final for the first time in the wonderful surroundings of the new parish facility, they also came away with five county titles from seven disciplines.
 
Nine clubs were represented – Oisins Glenariff, Cuchullians Dunloy and Loughgiel Shamrocks representing North Antrim with Lamh Dhearg, St.Galls and Pearces, who made a return to Scor after a fifteen year absence, from South Antrim while flying the South West flag were St.Mary's Rasharkin, Tir na nOg Randlestown and St.Mary's Aghagallon.
 
Due to the number of entries in Trath na gCeisteanna (Question Time) the Scor organising committee started proceeding early with a semi final heat. St.Galls, Tir na nOg, Cuchullians and St.Mary's Rasharkin making it through this stage to the last four.
 

At 7 O'clock St.Mary's Rasharkin's Therese Tunney opened the event with Amhrán Na BhFiann.

As the stage was set for Question Time, an event which usually concludes Scor, it was run off first. The host club lead the whole way through and collected their first title of the night amassing a staggering 66 points, well done to Patrick Kennedy, Danny McLernon and Joe Crawford.
 
Three clubs participated in Rince Fóirne (Ceili Dancing) Oisins Glenariffe, St.Mary's Aghagallon and St.Mary's Rasharkin. Rasharkin collected their second title in this event with a superb performance from Michaela Quinn, Breena Hasson, Breige Mullaghan, Emma Hampson, Niamh Kennedy, Laura O'Neill, Leona and Joanne Hampson.
 

The next section was Amhranaiocht Aonair (Solo Singing) which was hotly contested with seven entries; Therese Tunney from St.Mary's Rasharkin collected her third consecutive county title in this event.

In Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Music) Belfast club Patrick Pearses got the nod over Rasharkin, St.Galls and Cuchullians. Frank McCallin, Aodhan McCavana, Mary McCallin and Tomas O'Neill did their club proud in this event.
 
Aithrisroreacht / Scealaoicht (Recitation / Storytelling) was a two horse race between Tom Lynch from St.Mary's Rasharkin and Malachy Duffin from Tir na nOg, who was also the Fear a tí. The Rasharkin Kerryman pleased the adjudicators to give the home club their fourth title of the evening with his brilliant performance "From 18 to now”.
 

Bailead Ghrupa (Ballad Group Singing) had three clubs bidding for honours. Sinead and Maeve McAllister, Bronagh and Claire Kelly along with Patrick Tunney performed beautifully for Rasharkin, as did Michael McKenna, Gary Johnstone, Fiona Donnelly, Kieron Flannery and Philip O'Hara from St.Galls, but both clubs lost out to the very experienced Aghagallon group Joe McDonnell, Una McStravick, Caitriona McAtarskey, Bronagh Lennon and Adrian Hannon.

Nuachleas (Novelty Act) concluded the Scor, St.Mary's Rasharkin collected their fifth title of the night with "Double Trouble” seeing off the challenges of Aghagallon and Glenariffe. Well done to Charlie Mullaghan, Kevin Mc Lernon, Cynthia Smyth, Cathal O'Hagan, Patrick Kennedy, Joe Dalrymple, Blaine and Joel Quinn. Maura McGuigan is also to be thanked for her contribution as director.

County representative James McClean thanked Malachy Duffin for his role as Fear a tí, and Gloria McLaughlin as County Cultural Officer for her work. He also acknowledged the unenviable task the adjudicators had in scoring the acts and he applauded the high standard set by all the competitors in each event. James concluded by congratulating St.Mary's for their organisation and smooth running of the entire evening.


All the competitors deserve recognition for there efforts and all can feel proud of their performances. The Ulster Scor Sinsear Semi Final will be held Saturday 10th March at Banbridge Parish Centre were Antrim, Derry and Down Champions will compete for a place in the Ulster Scor Sinsear final.
