St.Mary's Rasharkin represented at Aontroim Scor Sinsear 2011

Antrim Senior Scor took place on Sunday 13th February in St.Mary's Parish Hall Glenravel. Naomh Mhuire Ros Earcain were there in force competing in five out of seven events, coming away with two county titles and finishing runners up in three others. It is great to see the club making major strides in cultural activities.

Nine clubs were represented at this years Scor - Carey Faughs, Cuchullians Dunloy and Con Magees Glenravel representing North Antrim with Lamh Dhearg, St.Agnes and St.Enda's from South Antrim and flying the South West flag were Tir na nOg and St.Mary's Aghagallon.

Over three hundred people packed into the parish centre in Martinstown to support their clubs, the majority of which were from St.Mary's Rasharkin and St.Mary's Aghagallon who also were also represented in five categories.

Congratulations go to our Ceili Dancers who put in a superb performance to beat Aghagallon in the first category, well done to Breige Mullaghan, Breena Hasson, Paula McAleese, Michaela Quinn, Claire Hasson, Marian Doherty, Emma Hampson and Anita Kennedy. The practises have definitely paid off, Seamus McNicholl is to be thanked for his work and guidance with the girls.

The next section was Amhranaiocht Aonair (Solo Singing) which had five entries, Therese Tunney accompanied with her brother Patrick put in a flawless performance to collect yet another county title. A well deserved win for her.

Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Music) was collected by Tir na nOg Randlestown brother and sister act Colm and Fionuala Duffin along with Donal Savage.

Aithrisroreacht / Scealaoicht (Recitation / Storytelling) was the first win of the night for Aghagallon by Claire Mulholland.

Bailead Ghrupa (Ballad Group Singing) had five clubs seeking the nod from the adjudicators, Sinead and Maeve McAllister, Bronagh and Claire Kelly along with Patrick Tunney performed beautifully for Rasharkin, but lost out to the very experienced Aghagallon group who were striving to defend their Ulster title.

Nuachleas (Novelty Act) was a two horse race between Rasharkin and Aghagallon. The Lough shore group were up first with their act "the Committee", with was good enough to please the judges and progress to the Ulster semi final. Rasharkin's act "Plan B" was brilliant. Well done to Charlie Mullaghan, Gerard McMullan, Kevin Mc Lernon Emer McLernon, Helen Doherty, Terry Hasson and "Big Tom" Lynch.

Joe Crawford, Danny McLernon and Patrick Kennedy also did the club proud and deserve credit for finishing runners up in Trath na gCeisteanna (Question Time). The trio amassed a staggering 70 points from a possible 76, only to be pipped at the post by Carey Faughs who collected all 76 points. Congratulations to them.

All the competitors deserve recognition for there efforts and all can feel proud of their performances. Charlie Mullaghan, Bernie Kelly and Cultural Officer Anthony McMullan are to be thanked for their contribution in the organising and promoting of our acts.
