Reeling Round Rasharkin 2012
9th December 2012

In association with McAtamney’s Butchers and Quigg Bros Reeling Round Rasharkin 2012 was held in the Wild Duck Portglenone on Saturday 8th December. Following the huge success of this event three years ago St.Mary’s Rasharkin decided to run another Irish dancing competition based on a jigs and reels theme, where former Irish dancers from Rasharkin were paired with well known faces from the area to raise funds for the club.

This event was always going to be a tremendous success with most of the tickets sold out two days after release! Great anticipation grew leading up to the performance thanks to the brilliant video footage of the dancers produced by Joe Dalrymple – Memories Video Productions – his imagination is second to none.

Successful events of this scale don’t happen without immense work going on behind the scenes, not everyone would realise the amount of long nights planning, practising, video editing, sound checking, music editing, organising and communicating that is vital in making this production.

The club wish to thank everyone who made this fundraiser an outstanding triumph, the eighteen dancers were incredible and all deserve recognition for their entertainment and superb dance routines with the finale group dance bringing down the house and receiving a well deserved standing ovation. Marian Doherty and Seamus McNicholl are to be commended for their contribution.

Comperes for the evening Terry Hasson and Kevin McLernon did a fantastic job and conducted proceedings seamlessly. Judges for the event were Maura McGuigan, Bernie Doherty, Cathal McMullan and Karol Doherty. They all gave witty and constructive feedback to the dancers and deserve thanks.

This event would simply not have reached the heights it did without the support and expertise of all involved. Joe Dalrymple and his production team are to be commended for the excellent video footage, Brian Boyle and his assistants are to be thanked for their sound and lighting expertise, Mark Hasson for the music editing as well as the staff and management of the Wild Duck, our vote sellers and collectors.

The support of the two main event sponsors McAtamney Butchers and Quigg Bros and all the event sponsors is greatly appreciated. Thanks also go to our supporters, friends and all who attended in such numbers. Finally the organising committee of Thomas Doherty, Benny Hegarty, Natalie Hasson and Elaine Donaghy can all stand up and take a bow. They put so much time and effort into the smooth running of this flawless event with no stone left unturned.

The club are indebted to all who were involved in any way, St.Mary’s are well recognised throughout the County and Province for showcasing superb events, this latest effort raises the bar once more and with our 70th Anniversary in 2013 – watch this space.
