St.Mary’s ousted in preliminary round
19th August 2014
St.Mary’s Rasharkin Senior football season goes from bad to worse following their defeat at the hands of Glen Road men St. Teresa’s recently in the preliminary round Antrim Senior Football Championship at Hannahstown.
Having completed three quarters of the league with only one victory the Dreen men look destined for a return to the second tier next season, St.Teresa’s on the other hand have enjoyed their football since winning the Intermediate Championship last term, sitting on the summit of Division two having won eleven from fourteen.
Rasharkin playing against the elements in the first half settled quickest and had raised the white flag after thirty seconds following a great effort form Eamon McNeill. Declan McKay got the two remaining  scores of the half through pointed frees, whilst St.Teresa’s made the most of wind advantage scoring three goals and four points to lead by ten points and the half time interval.

The Dreen Men faced an uphill battle in the second period and set about their task well in the opening fifteen minutes. Following a goal from Declan McKay three points from McNeill and one from Brendan McMullan it was a three point game. However, this was to be as good as it got as the Glen Road side took control through a Robbie Gallagher goal and points from Anton Taylor and Aaron Thompson to secure a place in the Quarter final against St.John’s.
