Well done to our U10 Camogs who landed the Lisa Strathern Memorial Shield following some brilliant performances in Bellaghy Sunday last. This was a very well organised tournament by the Wolftones club to commemorate a former U10 Camogie coach attended by sixteen clubs across Derry, Antrim and Tyrone.
St.Mary’s young stars were drew in group A and first up for our little warriors was Omagh, this evenly matched contest saw our girls come away with a narrow one point win. Next up was our local neighbours Kilrea, again this was a well matched pairing, so much so, the game finished all square 1-1 each. Our third game finished in defeat at the hands of the hosts.
Having narrowly missed the cut for the cup competition St.Mary’s were bookies favourites to collect the Shield, and they didn't disappoint. A comfortable win over Tyrone side Eglish in the semi-final qualified us for the final against Kilrea who overcome the challenges of Edendork. Another nail biting encounter saw our young Camogs produce the best performances of the day to win by 5 points - a richly deserved win.
A perfect way to finish the season, well done to the girls, who all played their part, a special word of thanks much go to Bellaghy Wolftones club in particular Paul Diamond, the Strathern family, our very own club coaches - Amy McMullan Terry McCann and Paul Hasson for their help and to all parents who supported and provided transport.
This group of U10 Camogs along with the U12’s and U8’s have worked hard this season and deserve much credit for their efforts, the future looks bright for this bunch of young girls.
