Under 13 Football Blitz
26th September 2010
At this stage of the season nearly all of the underage South West leagues are over or drawing to a close, so it's time to reflect on the season past and look towards the next. This is an ideal time to get an idea of the new faces of underage teams for the coming season. St.Mary's Rasharkin played host to an Under 13 football blitz on Sunday past, Sean Stinsons, Con Magee's Glenravel and St. Comgalls Antrim all accepting the invitation to participate.

Rasharkin's Karol Doherty came up with this initiative to get a sneak preview of the under 14 footballers of 2011.

The blitzes were ran off on two pitches with each club playing three games to determine which two would play off for a shield and which two would progress to contest the cup for overall blitz winners.

Round one would see Sean Stinsons face the hosts Rasharkin with the Bann siders winning by three points. Con Magees Glenravel defeated St.Comgalls Antrim on a scoreline of 3-2 to 1-3 in the other first round game.

St.Comgalls recorded their first victory at Round two when they beat Rasharkin 1-4 to 1-1. Glenravel won the other second round game beating Sean Stinsons 3-3 to 1-1.

Glenravel then beat the home side to make it three wins from three games and progress to the Cup final. They would face Antrim who beat Sean Stinsons in their third round match.

St.Comgalls Antrim made up for their earlier defeat by Glenravel in Round one by winning the Cup final in an exciting final with a score line Antrim 5-4 Glenravel 1-1. Both sides deserve credit for their fine footballing displays throughout the blitz.

Sean Stinsons and Rasharkin played in the Shield final, which was one of the highest scoring and exciting games of the day. Stinsons holding on at the end to win by the minimum 3-4 to 3-3. Rasharkin did however show great determination and fought hard right to the final whistle.

All clubs agreed this was a very successful blitz, St.Mary's would like to thank firstly the three visiting clubs for their attendance, the two referees Cathal O'Hagan and Cormac Hasson for their control of the games and the Rasharkin mentors Karol Doherty, Patrick Kennedy, Terry Hasson, Mickey Quinn and Brendan Hegerty for their work with this age group.
